Somewhere a general manager is explaining how TreVeyon Henderson got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at pick 146.
Lee III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Tyler Warren at pick 79 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Savion Williams at Round 3, Pick 31 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in the 146th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Will Lee III at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Jared Wilson was still sitting there in the 235th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a safety like Xavier Nwankpa reach No. 246 and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
