After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. That Bullock pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Khyree Jackson at pick 86, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in the 100th overall pick, with Calen Bullock worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason McCormick at No. 152 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Trevin Wallace at the 222nd pick when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
