You could see the war room lean forward. Christian Jones at No. 188 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Wallace has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Rome Odunze and all.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.20
· Pick 20
· Amarius Mims
· OT
· rank 24
In pick 20 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.27
· Pick 27
· Rome Odunze
· WR
· rank 9
The board fumbled Rome Odunze all the way to the 27th pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Cooper DeJean
· CB
· rank 26
Cooper DeJean in Round 2, Pick 4 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.22
· Pick 54
· Kingsley Suamataia
· OT
· rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 54 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 47
Taking Cooper Beebe in pick No. 67 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.20
· Pick 84
· Calen Bullock
· S
· rank 83
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at slot 84, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.23
· Pick 86
· Khyree Jackson
· CB
· rank 95
A conviction pick on Khyree Jackson at the 86th overall pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.19
· Pick 119
· Braelon Allen
· RB
· rank 106
Braelon Allen slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.23
· Pick 123
· Theo Johnson
· TE
· rank 123
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in the 123rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.27
· Pick 127
· Johnny Wilson
· WR
· rank 126
Johnny Wilson in slot 127 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.3
· Pick 139
· Mohamed Kamara
· DL-EDGE
· rank 133
They did well to land Mohamed Kamara in the 139th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R6.13
· Pick 188
· Christian Jones
· OT
· rank 132
Christian Jones in pick 188 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.2
· Pick 222
· Trevin Wallace
· LB
· rank 233
Trevin Wallace in pick No. 222 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
