The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Trajan Jeffcoat, 64 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They have staked the next five years on J.J. McCarthy, which is the only story that really matters here. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Worthy at the 67th pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dominick Puni in the 87th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Audric Estime at No. 100, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 41, with Jaylan Ford worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Myles Harden in the 233rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trajan Jeffcoat at No. 244 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
