When the story of this class is written, it opens with Anthony Belton at the 166th overall pick, a reach of 96 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The Perkins Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
The Winston Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Omarion Hampton in the 34th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Josh Conerly Jr. in the 41st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 44 with a little surplus value in Mykel Williams. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Alfred Collins at No. 54 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Jalen Royals in the 55th overall pick says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dylan Fairchild slid further than he should have, and No. 75 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Andrew Mukuba at the Round 3 slot is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Danny Stutsman, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kevin Winston Jr. while clear needs at quarterback sat open.

Dorian Strong in the 150th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Raheim Sanders at the 169th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.

A real head-scratcher, Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 5, Pick 33 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Will Lee III at No. 190 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 206 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
