The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Javion Cohen, taking him 49 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spending an early pick on edge rusher with wide receiver and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Chop Robinson in the 36th overall pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Javion Cohen in Round 3, Pick 37 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DJ James in slot 113 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Justin Eboigbe in the 124th overall pick leaves wide receiver and tight end for later.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Dwight McGlothern at the 245th pick that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
