The rest of the league had time to spare on Antonio Williams; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 48 spots ahead at the 188th pick.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in No. 12, where Ashton Jeanty graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan Fairchild at Round 2, Pick 12 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Watts in slot 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Harold Perkins Jr. is a better player than pick 150 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Ar'maj Reed-Adams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Shemar Turner in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Simeon Barrow Jr. at pick 171 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Antonio Williams at the 188th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
DJ Campbell in Round 6, Pick 34 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
