After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Giants committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They are betting Mahogany proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Smith pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
A slide stopped in No. 37, with Xavier Worthy worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Brandon Dorlus in pick No. 54; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Haynes this early at pick 69. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
James Williams in the 105th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Mahogany well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ainias Smith at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
