Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Vikings spent pick No. 244 on Hykeem Williams, a name the board had a full 45 spots lower. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Cobie Durant deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 18
Kayden McDonald at pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 52
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 57 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jadarian Price · RB · rank 61
They will replay Jadarian Price at the 82nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 58
Jake Slaughter in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 83
Value with a capital V on Daylen Everette in No. 92, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Bud Clark · S · rank 105
A conviction pick on Bud Clark at Round 3, Pick 33 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.23 · Pick 163 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 163
No edge and no loss on Nate Boerkircher in slot 163; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Caleb Douglas · WR · rank 166
They robbed the room for Caleb Douglas here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Kaden Wetjen · WR · rank 232
Kaden Wetjen at the 234th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Jadon Canady · CB · rank 221
Nice patience on Jadon Canady, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 19. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 264
Jack Kelly at pick 239 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Hykeem Williams · WR · rank 289
They left a pile of value on the table to take Hykeem Williams this early at No. 244. The roster fit checks out.
