The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Curtis Jacobs went at Round 5, Pick 1, a good 46 picks before the board was ready.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Hart pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 25
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 75
They reached into another round for Christian Haynes, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 96
Tykee Smith at pick No. 100 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 183
Curtis Jacobs at Round 5, Pick 1 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 138
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at slot 153. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 181
They liked Jaylan Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in the 173rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 178
A slide stopped in the 188th pick, with Roger Rosengarten worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 240
A real head-scratcher, Trevor Keegan in Round 6, Pick 38 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 231
Daequan Hardy at No. 242 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
