Nobody else had Sam Hecht anywhere near the 59th pick. The Bears did, by 30 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Nwokobia at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hecht in the 59th overall pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dani Dennis-Sutton at pick 60 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
De'Zhaun Stribling in Round 3, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Jude Bowry at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kaleb Proctor. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Isaiah Nwokobia in the 239th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid a round early for Nolan Rucci in the 241st overall pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
