Detroit Lions

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Lions: B-.

The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Drew Allar, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. On value alone, Montgomery makes the weekend a net positive. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 20
In the 17th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. More want than need.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drew Allar this early at pick 118. It fills a real need, too.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Mikail Kamara · DE-EDGE · rank 152
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mikail Kamara in the 128th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.17 · Pick 157 · Bryce Boettcher · LB · rank 170
A reach on Bryce Boettcher in slot 157; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.41 · Pick 181 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 171
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 181, where Aamil Wagner graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.24 · Pick 205 · Le'Veon Moss · RB · rank 204
Le'Veon Moss in No. 205 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.32 · Pick 213 · Jadon Canady · CB · rank 210
A tidy little value on Jadon Canady in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.6 · Pick 222 · Tyren Montgomery · WR · rank 211
Tyren Montgomery at pick 222 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
