The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Drew Allar, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. On value alone, Montgomery makes the weekend a net positive. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drew Allar this early at pick 118. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mikail Kamara in the 128th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Bryce Boettcher in slot 157; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 181, where Aamil Wagner graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Le'Veon Moss in No. 205 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Jadon Canady in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyren Montgomery at pick 222 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
