You build a draft on nights like this. Demetrius Knight Jr. had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Ashton Jeanty at pick No. 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at the 76th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jahdae Barron in slot 103, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Walter Nolen in the 116th pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Wyatt Milum at No. 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at pick 139 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tre Harris in Round 5, Pick 26 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at the 170th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaxson Dart in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Bhayshul Tuten in No. 174, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Armand Membou at pick 190 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Demetrius Knight Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
