The war room fell hard for Tahj Washington, and it showed at pick No. 246: 116 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Payton Wilson at the 57th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Darius Robinson in No. 88 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at the 125th pick, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Christian Jones at No. 135, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Braelon Allen at slot 203 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Charles Turner III. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaden Shirden in pick 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
