The Tommy Eichenberg selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 37 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Eichenberg pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and wide receiver. The Bailey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bralen Trice in slot 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brandon Dorlus in the 73rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyrice Knight in No. 88 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tommy Eichenberg at linebacker with quarterback and wide receiver open.
Nothing to complain about; Sataoa Laumea went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Renardo Green at the 168th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Erick All at the 203rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Emani Bailey was the payoff at pick 216. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Zion Logue enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 251. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
