Thirty-one other rooms let Tory Horton slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at No. 170. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Burke lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot.
They took Tyleik Williams at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Denzel Burke a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 150 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tory Horton in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Mitchell Evans still on the board at Round 5, Pick 33. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Cobee Bryant went about where he belonged in the 174th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
DJ Giddens at the 190th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a running back like Bhayshul Tuten reach the 211th pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nothing to complain about; John Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
