Nobody else had Noah Thomas anywhere near slot 220. The Patriots did, by 123 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
Mullings at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Abdul Carter and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Abdul Carter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to No. 36, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: James Pearce Jr. at pick No. 47 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Booker in the 68th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They talked themselves into Eli Stowers at pick 105, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Kalel Mullings in the 142nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Noah Thomas at pick No. 220 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Tony Grimes in pick 223 is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Reuben Fatheree II well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
