Somebody in No. 148 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Jalen Milroe, the No. 101 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Stackhouse pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in slot 39: Omarion Hampton for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Sanders at the 44th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 19 with a little surplus value in Aireontae Ersery. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Demetrius Knight Jr. higher than the 76th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Tate Ratledge went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylin Noel at No. 121 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 139 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a safety like Lathan Ransom reach pick 141 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jalen Milroe in the 148th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 185; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cobee Bryant in No. 193 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 31, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
