Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Nick Nash, 77 picks early at pick No. 168.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. However the rest shakes out, Skattebo at that price is a win they earned.

Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 4
In pick No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the 12th pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 17
Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 22
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at the 76th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Zane Durant · DT · rank 174
Zane Durant at pick 148 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Nick Nash · WR · rank 245
Nick Nash at Round 5, Pick 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 160
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Jaeden Roberts graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 113
Cam Skattebo in pick 171 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · PJ Williams · OT · rank 258
They reached a country mile for PJ Williams at slot 187, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 243
Shilo Sanders at No. 209 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Jimmy Horn Jr. · WR · rank 294
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jimmy Horn Jr. in Round 7, Pick 31, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
