Dallas Cowboys

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B-.

The Cowboys bet big and early on Joe Milton III, 129 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simpson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The back end got a real overhaul.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 20
Terrion Arnold in the 24th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 73
A reach on Trey Benson in pick No. 56; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 216
Joe Milton III at No. 87 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 158
Jaylin Simpson in Round 5, Pick 38 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 247
Tyler Owens in the 216th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 250
Trente Jones at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Matt Lee · C · rank 262
A wild overpay on Matt Lee in the 244th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
