The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Riley Leonard fell into the 153rd overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. Reaching for Cornelius left real value on the table behind him. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had Patrick Payton higher than the 61st pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ajani Cornelius in the 89th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Jamaree Caldwell went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Riley Leonard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Korey Foreman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Ja'Corey Brooks in pick 201; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for E.J. Smith in pick No. 206, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
