There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for Nick Nash, 137 picks ahead of schedule.
Schwesinger falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The Campbell pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and running back still on the board. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach Round 2, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick 44 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalon Walker in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 81st pick on Jihaad Campbell with quarterback and running back unsolved.
Nick Nash at No. 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Domani Jackson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 138. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Somehow Carson Schwesinger was still sitting there in the 219th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Elijah Arroyo all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Jalen Rivers in pick 238 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
