The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chargers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A mixed bag that lands at C-.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Hadden pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sedrick Van Pran. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Ruke Orhorhoro in No. 71, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Braelon Allen in the 115th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylin Simpson at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Brennan Jackson in Round 5, Pick 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in slot 181: Kamal Hadden for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steele Chambers at Round 6, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caedan Wallace in slot 225. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
