The Browns spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, in the Round 4 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They are betting Fano proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
In the 24th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Brazzell II in Round 2, Pick 7. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Chris Bell, who had no business lasting to No. 49. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Keith Abney II at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a safety like Emmanuel McNeil-Warren reach the 107th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sam Hecht at pick 112 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in slot 146, where Harold Perkins Jr. graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Chris McClellan in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Logan Fano in the 206th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
John Michael Gyllenborg in Round 7, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
