Some picks age like wine; Stone Handy at Round 6, Pick 11 will need to, sitting 132 spots clear of his grade.
They banked enough surplus on Neal to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Watts in No. 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Higgins in pick 76. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Tahj Brooks in Round 5, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 168, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jay Higgins at slot 170 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Devin Neal was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Stone Handy at the 186th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Greene. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Fentrell Cypress II in pick 248, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
