There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Packers never got to the one that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Mustapha to cover a lot of smaller sins. Nubin has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a two-high chess piece, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kris Jenkins at pick 58. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dominick Puni at slot 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the 91st pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in the 127th overall pick: Andru Phillips for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah Adams in pick No. 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Malik Mustapha in Round 5, Pick 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
