Everything else got attention, and quarterback got none. That is a strange way for the Packers to leave a draft. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If Cooper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 36; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Jonathon Brooks in the 41st overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Kiran Amegadjie in No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 88th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Gabriel Murphy in slot 91 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Beau Brade in pick 126 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Sione Vaki, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 33. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
