The Jarrian Jones selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 46 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On value alone, Vaki makes the weekend a net positive.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Nubin at the 41st pick, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They reached a country mile for Trey Benson at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jarrian Jones in pick 91 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marist Liufau this early at the 126th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Sione Vaki, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 33. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
