Of all the ways to open, the Giants chose the head-scratcher, spending the Round 4 slot on Javon Solomon with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still wide open. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Watts reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
That Nubin pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 17 they get a problem off the edge at fair value.
Nothing to complain about; Adonai Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Nubin in Round 2, Pick 15, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sedrick Van Pran at No. 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in pick 96. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Jarrian Jones in the 140th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Eric Watts in pick No. 185 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
