The board owed the Cardinals one, and it paid up: Dontay Corleone, the No. 53 name on the board, sitting there at the 136th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Quinn Ewers is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Stutsman left real value on the table behind him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Quinn Ewers went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Danny Stutsman at slot 40, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in slot 72, with Tez Johnson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for DJ Giddens in pick 104, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Dontay Corleone at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 8, where Trey Zuhn III graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Mason Taylor all the way to the 200th pick, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
