Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cardinals spent the 50th overall pick on Marcus Dumervil, a name the board had a full 280 spots lower.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On value alone, Cross III makes the weekend a net positive.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th pick they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A big swing on Marcus Dumervil at pick No. 50, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Kevin Jennings in Round 3, Pick 18 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Howard Cross III, who had no business lasting to the 119th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
