Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Kalil Alexander. He came off 50 spots early, and the room will hear about it. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Rivers pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get an anchor for the offensive line. More want than need.
No edge and no loss on Germie Bernard in pick No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jacob Rodriguez in pick 76 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a safety like A.J. Haulcy reach Round 3, Pick 21 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Domonique Orange at the 99th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Ja'Kobi Lane was still sitting there in the 121st overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Chandler Rivers all the way to slot 135, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah World at No. 161. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Taylen Green in Round 6, Pick 35 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Kitselman at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Zavion Thomas in pick No. 230, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Kalil Alexander at the 237th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
