The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They are betting Harris proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Melton pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marist Liufau. A minor itch, scratched.
Max Melton at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on James Williams in pick 135, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Marcus Harris at No. 203 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaden Crumedy at slot 217 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
They paid up for Dylan McMahon at pick No. 219 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Walter Rouse went about where he belonged in the 246th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
