The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Raheim Sanders slide 74 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Warren at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 5. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darien Porter at pick No. 77 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Savion Williams in pick 104 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jake Majors at the 143rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Raheim Sanders was still sitting there in No. 217, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Terrance Ferguson at the 220th pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Nick Martin in pick 238, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
