The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Tyler Batty, 103 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach No. 63 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Azareye'h Thomas enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Elic Ayomanor in the 128th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at the 146th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 160 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They talked themselves into Tyler Batty at pick 203, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Jonah Monheim at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylen Reed at the 247th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
