After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Reaching for Tupuola-Fetui left real value on the table behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. However the rest shakes out, Jordan at that price is a win they earned.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at slot 37, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Graham Barton in the 40th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is a better player than pick No. 67 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 101 with a little surplus value in Zak Zinter. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at No. 138 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in the 178th overall pick, with Kitan Oladapo worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Brennan Jackson in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Tarheeb Still here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Jawhar Jordan in pick 256 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
