The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Restrepo steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If Ersery pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than Aireontae Ersery at No. 38, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Tyler Booker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Restrepo at pick 76 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Deone Walker slid further than he should have, and pick No. 77 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
