The Patriots torched the value chart for Isaac Guerendo, taking him 88 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Green. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Spencer Rattler, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Theo Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Max Melton at the 136th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
You do not let a safety like Renardo Green reach slot 182 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Isaac Guerendo at Round 6, Pick 12 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Christian Jones in the 229th pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
