The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Taylor-Demerson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker still on the board.
The Fiske pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Taylor-Demerson.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 5 they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
In the 27th overall pick they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 30th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braden Fiske. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Nubin went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 6. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Adisa Isaac in pick 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
They bypassed pressing needs at linebacker to take Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety that was not the priority.
A reach on Theo Johnson in slot 106; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Blake Fisher at No. 108 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Beaux Limmer in the 115th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
No edge and no loss on Cornelius Johnson in the 184th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 19, with Tip Reiman worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Logan Lee in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Tarheeb Still at pick 241, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
