You could see the war room lean forward. Quinshon Judkins at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every board in the league had Jennings lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jalon Walker in slot 48 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Luke Kandra in No. 98; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Malachi Moore all the way to pick 114, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Kyren Lacy in slot 133 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Kevin Jennings in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in the 154th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Brant Kuithe in pick No. 224 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Truss at Round 7, Pick 15 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke Lachey at the 252nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
