If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 199 is 45 spots clear of where he belonged. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brenden Rice. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Max Melton all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Ben Sinnott is a better player than Round 5, Pick 19 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Cedric Johnson still on the board at pick No. 186. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
