This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Omar Speights, the No. 208 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 242. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
A tidy little value on Graham Barton in slot 53, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Gabriel Murphy at Round 3, Pick 22 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Johnson at No. 158 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cedric Johnson at the 164th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Javon Baker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Josh Proctor in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Omar Speights at pick No. 242 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
