The Dolphins spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, in pick 231. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Lampkin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Dolphins indulged a want in Mukuba while a need in wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots stayed open.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get their guy under center for the next decade. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Nick Emmanwori in Round 2, Pick 16 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andrew Mukuba at safety with wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots open.
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at pick 114 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Willie Lampkin in Round 4, Pick 32 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach the 149th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 154th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 193 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Skattebo at slot 231 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
