The Dolphins bet big and early on Trajan Jeffcoat, 67 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. No fireworks, but a solid B.
However the rest shakes out, Oladapo at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Dolphins indulged a want in Solomon while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at the 37th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Devontez Walker at Round 2, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Haynes at pick 69 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Hunter Nourzad at No. 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Tip Reiman in the 181st pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 6, Pick 9 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy little value on Trente Jones in pick No. 198, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Trajan Jeffcoat, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
