When a board-topper like Jake Slaughter slides to Round 3, Pick 23, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Adding Tytus Howard by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter.
A.J. Haulcy in slot 72 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Eli Stowers still on the board at pick No. 75. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in Round 3, Pick 23, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jake Golday in No. 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Antonio Williams in the 94th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jude Bowry in pick 130 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Jaeden Roberts at par in the 151st pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zxavian Harris at No. 162 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Le'Veon Moss in pick No. 211 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Chase Roberts slid further than he should have, and slot 227 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Thaddeus Dixon was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Diego Pavia is a better player than pick 253 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
