Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent No. 56 on Christian Haynes, a name most had 23 spots down the list. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Jurkovec falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton in Round 2, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Haynes in slot 56 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Gabriel Murphy at pick 105, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Cedric Johnson went about where he belonged in the 142nd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Ben Sinnott in pick No. 161, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Turner Corcoran. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Phil Jurkovec in pick No. 245 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
