Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent pick 134 on Javion Cohen, a name the board had a full 35 spots lower. The final tally is a middling C+.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Dolphins indulged a want in Solomon while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Braswell.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Hit on JC Latham and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Braswell at the 55th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Zach Frazier at par in pick 62, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
Javion Cohen at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 144, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid a round early for Malik Mustapha in the 160th pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Fabien Lovett at pick No. 184, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Curtis Jacobs at slot 198 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Michael Barrett at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
