You could see the war room lean forward. Lander Barton at pick No. 224 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bradyn Swinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Donovan Jackson at Round 2, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Omarr Norman-Lott enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 62. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Azareye'h Thomas at pick No. 98 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Andrew Mukuba at pick 114 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in the 133rd overall pick: Kyren Lacy for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaeden Roberts in the 149th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to pick 154, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Lander Barton was still sitting there in the 224th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Raheim Sanders at pick No. 231 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jared Wilson at slot 252 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
