Boards are made to be trusted, and the Dolphins shredded theirs for Dayon Hayes. He came off 143 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They banked enough surplus on Taylor to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Dylan Fairchild went about where he belonged in pick 48. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dillon Gabriel at the 98th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malachi Moore at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dayon Hayes at the 133rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Antwane Wells Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Mason Taylor all the way to slot 154, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Seth McLaughlin at the 224th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Miles Frazier in the 231st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had cheaper options than Garrett Dellinger at No. 252, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
