You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Byron Murphy II in the 29th overall pick.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 29th overall pick they get a load in the middle, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 29, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Ben Sinnott in pick 166; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Hayden Hatten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
